Local movers for East Tennessee homes
A local move with Mitchell Moving means our own crew and our own truck, start to finish. We move houses, apartments, condos, cabins and single rooms across Sevier, Knox, Blount, Loudon, Anderson, Roane, Jefferson and Hamblen counties, whether you are going across the street or from Gatlinburg to West Knoxville. See every town we cover on the service areas page.
As a residential moving company we move families changing houses, renters at the end of a lease, people downsizing, and anyone moving into or out of a storage unit, including climate-controlled units.
What is included in a local move
- A crew sized to your move: two movers for a small apartment, more movers and a second truck for a large house.
- One of our own 16- or 26-foot trucks. Steep, narrow or gravel driveway? Tell us and we plan the smaller truck.
- Moving blankets and shrink wrap on furniture, and mattress covers.
- Taking apart and putting back together beds, tables and other furniture.
- Furniture placed in the rooms you choose, not left in the garage.

How a local move works
- Free quote. Call (865) 387-1763 or use the quote form. We quote over the phone or come out for an in-home walk-through. Tell us about stairs, elevators, parking, and gate or HOA rules at both addresses so the right crew shows up.
- Clear pricing before you book. Local moves are usually quoted by the time the job takes, with a crew sized to the job. We explain exactly how your quote works before you book. No deposit.
- Pick your date. About 4–6 weeks ahead is best, especially in summer and on weekends. Short notice? Call anyway. Changing the date costs nothing. We do not move on Sundays.
- Moving day. The crew lead walks through with you, then the crew wraps, loads, drives, unloads, reassembles and places everything.
- Pay when you are moved in. You pay once unloading is finished, by cash, check or card (card payments carry a processing fee, which we tell you up front).

Frequently asked questions
How are local moves quoted?
Local moves are usually quoted by the time the job takes, with a crew sized to your move. We base it on what you are moving, the distance and access at both homes, and explain it before you book.
Do you take a deposit?
No. We do not take deposits. You pay when the crew has finished unloading.
Do you take apart and reassemble furniture?
Yes. Taking apart and putting back together beds and other furniture is part of a local move, and the crew places furniture in the rooms you choose.
Can you move my things into a storage unit?
Yes. We move belongings into and out of storage units, including climate-controlled units. We do not run our own storage facility.
What can you not move?
Flammable materials, hazardous chemicals, weapons, live plants and perishable food. If you are not sure about an item, ask when you get your quote.
