How we quote a move
You shouldn't have to guess what a move is going to cost or how the price was put together. Here's how we quote, start to finish. Estimates are always free.
Step 1: Tell us about the move
Call (865) 387-1763 or send the quote form. A real person answers. We'll ask:
- Where you're moving from and to.
- Your date, and whether you want a morning or afternoon start.
- How many bedrooms, or which big items are going.
- Stairs and elevators at both ends.
- Anything heavy or unusual, like a piano, a safe or a gun safe.
- Whether you want us to pack.
For a small move, a list of the big pieces and a rough count of boxes is usually all we need.
Step 2: By phone or in person
Smaller local moves can usually be quoted over the phone. For bigger homes, generally three bedrooms or more, and for long-distance moves, we'd rather come out and walk through it with you. The walk-through is free, and it's how we get the crew size, the truck and the time right.
What goes into the price
Four things, every time:
- What's going. The furniture, the boxes and anything heavy.
- How far. Across town, across the state or across several states.
- Access. Stairs, elevators, long walks from the truck, steep or narrow driveways, and parking at both ends.
- Packing. Whether we pack all of it, the fragile things, or none. See packing services.
Those also decide how many movers we send (always at least two) and whether you need our 16-foot truck, a 26-footer or more than one.
Local moves vs. long-distance moves
- Local moves are usually quoted by the time the job takes. Your crew size and truck are set in the quote.
- Long-distance and in-state moves get a flat-price written estimate. Once you accept it, it's binding: the price doesn't change unless you add services. More on long-distance moves and moves within Tennessee.
What you get in writing
Your written estimate shows our insurance and our USDOT (3129249) and MC (MC-1604122) numbers. On an interstate move, it comes with basic released-value protection, as federal rules require. Ask us about full-value protection if you want more coverage.
Booking, changes and paying
- No deposit. We don't take one. You pay when unloading is done.
- Changing your date doesn't cost anything.
- Paying: cash, check or card (cards carry a processing fee), and businesses can pay by invoice.
- Book ahead. About 4 to 6 weeks is best, especially for summer and weekends. Short notice? Call anyway. Our moving checklist helps with the rest.
What can change the price after you accept
Only adding services.

Frequently asked questions
Do you charge for an estimate?
No. Phone and in-home estimates are both free.
Why do you want to see my house in person?
For bigger homes and long-distance moves, seeing it is how we get the crew, the truck and the price right, so the estimate holds.
What's a binding estimate?
A written price that doesn't change once you accept it, unless you add services. Our long-distance and in-state moves are quoted that way.
Do you need a deposit to hold my date?
No. You pay when unloading is done.
What can't you move?
Flammables, hazardous chemicals, weapons, live plants and perishable food.
